New Year, New Site

With any major project, there’s always a million more things you want to do then can do. Pop!_Planet is no exception. When I first envisioned what I wanted to see Pop!_Planet become, I saw a resource for the Pop!_OS community. That resource started as a simple wiki, but I knew I could do better; I could build a true community.

When I finally figured out where I wanted to take Pop!_Planet, I knew I was in for a ton of work. Building a community is no small task, and the first version of the Pop!_Planet forums was not up to my standards, but it was a start! When we started discussing possible upgrades, both in functionality and form, the new year seemed like an ideal goal. We knew we’d have time where there would be few users around thanks to the holiday and what better time for a fresh start?

So, the team here at Pop!_Planet is proud to introduce the next evolution of our platform. We’re far from finished, but this has been a massive step for us. We have a whole new design, a ton of new functionality, and a few surprises still being worked on as we dive into the new year. One thing to keep an eye on; the home page isn’t just a blog anymore. We’ve expanded it to include tutorials and the like, which will be appearing as we vet content, so keep an eye on it if you want to learn!

Man, you were burning some midnight oil with this upgrade, and the result is fantastic. Thanks.

If you want a monospaced font for code that requires the least width while still looking nice (and supports ligatures), Iosevka has always been my goto. There's also the font we use in Pop by default: Fira Mono.

Looking at the Ubuntu forums, seems they could do with an upgrade. It's still as pitiful as ever.

We're already using Fira Sans for the main font, makes sense to use Fira Mono for code. Good suggestion!

It'd be a good idea to prefer Fira Code when available, else fall back to Fira Mono. The Code variant being an enhanced version that supports ligatures.

Fira fonts are definitely one of the reasons I love using Pop. Nothing to change out of the box. Thanks @ System76.

Done! Using, in order, Fira Code, Fira Mono, and Roboto Mono.
