• Pop!_Planet is still very much under development. Data for the wiki is being sourced from the Arch Linux and Ubuntu wikis, along with a bunch of completely unique content specific to Pop!_OS, and sourcing, converting and updating that content takes time; please be patient. If you can't find what you're looking for here, check the Arch Linux and Ubuntu wikis.
  • Welcome!

I'll get straight to the point.

When I started Pop!_Planet, I launched it because I saw a need for a centralized community for Pop!_OS. To be frank, I never expected the level of popularity it has achieved. Over the last year, we have gone from under 50 users, to almost 400 users. That's awesome! However... it also comes with a downside. We are rapidly running out of disk space on our server, and the bandwidth costs go up every month.

Pop!_Planet is not affiliated with System76 in any way, and is funded completely out of pocket. From day one, I said that I'd never use on-site ads (I hate them as much as you do), so the only monetization we get is through donations. Right now, the donations we receive don't even cover our overhead.

I know that most users will ignore this message, and that's ok. However, if even a few of our users are willing and able to donate a few dollars to help offset our expenses, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your time,

    Dan Griffiths

Now accepting donations through things that aren't PayPal!

Well, I finally got enough prodding that I added a non-PayPal donation option to the site. If you've always wanted to donate but don't use PayPal, or just want to get things out of their grubby little hands, feel free to choose the new Credit Card payment method on the donation form. It's not a...

The future of Pop!_Planet - User Poll

Recently, I've made some decisions regarding the future of my actual business. One of these decisions impacts Pop!_Planet in a not-insignificant way. As of January first, we're moving to implement a company-wide standard intended to increase the stability and security of our sites, as well as...

Help us name our next product!

I've posted about this on our Twitter and Mattermost, but there's been some confusion as to what exactly we're building, so I thought a better description was in order. With the recent unveiling of the Pop!_Planet Community Repository, we've begun working on a related project. Many...

dpkg-clean: orphaned config file cleanup script

EDIT: This is now deprecated in favor of the standalone app available here. The original script is a tiny bit buggy and very inefficient by comparison and is left here solely for reference. I've been using a variant of this script for ages to help keep orphaned configs to a minimum. Even with...

    Pop Paste

Last week we quietly released Pop!_Paste, our official Pop!_Planet pastebin, in response to the numerous times we've found ourselves giving out the Ubuntu pastebin URL to users looking for support and needing somewhere to post log files, code snippets and the like. Fedora has a pastebin, Ubuntu...

    Alternative to GKSU

Recently, gksu has been deprecated in favor of pkexec. Unfortunately, changes in how X works, and the unpolished state of Wayland, have resulted in many apps erroring when launched with pkexec. This little script remedies that. It's not perfect, I'm sure, but it's fairly thoroughly tested, works...

    Post Your Rig

I thought it might be helpful to new users to document what hardware Pop has been made to work on, and what problems users might face with a given system. So... post your rig! Personally, I'm running Pop on an ASUS ROG Strix GL502VS. Everything essential works out of the box. The one thing...

    System Info in Screenshots

I've been asked how I did the nifty little system info display in my desktop screenshot. Since it's a really good question, and I doubt it's the last time I'll be asked, I figured it'd be nice to post a quick "howto" for everyone. There's a TON of apps available that do some variation of that...

    2018 Screenshot Thread

I know we're running out of time in 2018, but still felt it was important to get this out there just in case. I suspect I'll get a better response over the course of 2019 than during the last month of 2018, but still. Posting Guidelines Do not post full resolution screenshots directly to this...
