• Pop!_Planet is still very much under development. Data for the wiki is being sourced from the Arch Linux and Ubuntu wikis, along with a bunch of completely unique content specific to Pop!_OS, and sourcing, converting and updating that content takes time; please be patient. If you can't find what you're looking for here, check the Arch Linux and Ubuntu wikis.
  • Welcome!

I'll get straight to the point.

When I started Pop!_Planet, I launched it because I saw a need for a centralized community for Pop!_OS. To be frank, I never expected the level of popularity it has achieved. Over the last year, we have gone from under 50 users, to almost 400 users. That's awesome! However... it also comes with a downside. We are rapidly running out of disk space on our server, and the bandwidth costs go up every month.

Pop!_Planet is not affiliated with System76 in any way, and is funded completely out of pocket. From day one, I said that I'd never use on-site ads (I hate them as much as you do), so the only monetization we get is through donations. Right now, the donations we receive don't even cover our overhead.

I know that most users will ignore this message, and that's ok. However, if even a few of our users are willing and able to donate a few dollars to help offset our expenses, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Support Pop!_Planet

    Thank you for your time,

    Dan Griffiths

I am having trouble to install a OS update package. The UI version seems to idle at downloading then it stops.
When I ran sudo apt-get upgrade it always stops here:

Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/system76/pop/ubuntu/pool/main/p/pop-icon-theme/pop-icon-theme_2.1.0~1595518344~20.04~6df4f47_all.deb Connection timed out [IP: 91.189.95.83 80]
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?

When I tried the link directly and downloaded the file via browser, it worked, however it was slow. (I guess on the server side, because otherwise I have excellent network speed). But no matter I moved the downloaded file to the apt cache, the process tries to downloaded it again and again.
Now I have 77 components waiting for update.

What to do, how to resolve the situation?

Did you try with --fix-missing?

Sounds like you may need to reconfigure your package manager. Run these commands one at a time.

Code:
sudo apt clean
sudo apt update -m
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt install -f
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt autoremove --purge
Then try sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade.

Hopefully, it gets you going. Let us know.

Hi, thanks for responding!
Yes I tried the --fix-missing - Not helped.
I tried the commands you suggested.
In the sudo apt dist-upgrade failed in the same place:

Seems to me like this one file could be damaged in the server or something?

How is this problem now? Occasionally, Launchpad has network issues and this kind of behavior clears up after a short time. just ticking the boxes atm.

Monday morning: I was able to run the update. It seems like it was some kind of network hiccup.

Launchpad having connection issues happens on rare occasions. Sometimes it will only be in a specific location. It's a hard one to pin down when it works perfectly elsewhere.
