• Pop!_Planet is still very much under development. Data for the wiki is being sourced from the Arch Linux and Ubuntu wikis, along with a bunch of completely unique content specific to Pop!_OS, and sourcing, converting and updating that content takes time; please be patient. If you can't find what you're looking for here, check the Arch Linux and Ubuntu wikis.
  • Welcome!

I'll get straight to the point.

When I started Pop!_Planet, I launched it because I saw a need for a centralized community for Pop!_OS. To be frank, I never expected the level of popularity it has achieved. Over the last year, we have gone from under 50 users, to almost 400 users. That's awesome! However... it also comes with a downside. We are rapidly running out of disk space on our server, and the bandwidth costs go up every month.

Pop!_Planet is not affiliated with System76 in any way, and is funded completely out of pocket. From day one, I said that I'd never use on-site ads (I hate them as much as you do), so the only monetization we get is through donations. Right now, the donations we receive don't even cover our overhead.

I know that most users will ignore this message, and that's ok. However, if even a few of our users are willing and able to donate a few dollars to help offset our expenses, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Support Pop!_Planet

    Thank you for your time,

    Dan Griffiths

I tried to change the background picture of the lock screen in gnome tweaks but it didn't change . so after some browsing i came to know that i could change the lock screen wallpaper by editing the pop.css file but when i opened it through the command sudo gdit usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/pop.css it oped a blank file in the text editor. I don't know how. I wanted to know if there is any problem with the installation.

It's because you've left a `/` out. You made a new file. I think what you want is sudo nano /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/pop.css.

Additionally, you can use Gedit if you want, but Nano is much better for editing files.

Aha, if you're on 20.04, the structure of .css has changed from 19.10. The information is outdated and it's still a case of creating a new empty file. That file shouldn't exist in 20.04.

Whatever you do, don't edit /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/Pop/gnome-shell-theme.gresource. It will mess up your installation.

I think I know the correct way to handle this, but let me confirm.

I had opened it but did not edit. Thanks for the suggestion. You just saved my installation.

I think the easiest and correct way would be to use dconf editor. Look here for more information. I did not try this myself in 20.04, but it makes sense.

There is a much more complex, correct way, but see if that does it first.

Where it says sudo ./ubuntu-20.04-change-gdm-background /path/to/image, the /path/to/image part means your path to image. For my example in that post, I think it was /Downloads/Bubbles-color.jpg.
